2024 Cy Young Odds

It’s been quite some time since the Detroit Tigers had a bonafide ace leading their rotation, and now, as we enter the second half of the season, that ace is sitting atop the AL Cy Young odds board in most shops. Meanwhile, in the NL, the Braves have had their fair share of premier arms throughout the years, but current NL Cy Young favorite Chris Sale is looking to become the first since 1998 to win the award.

For as good as both Skubal and Sale have been, the MLB season is a marathon, so there is still plenty of time for guys to fly up the odds board. To stay up to date on all of the latest movements in the AL and NL Cy Young race, follow the odds from all of the top Pennsylvania sports betting apps down below.

Current Favorites

Tarik Skubal (Detroit Tigers): Prior to July 4th, Skubal had slipped into second on the odds board in some shops, but that did not last long. The lefty racked up six strikeouts over seven innings against the Guardians in his most recent start, which gives him 146 in 123 innings this season.

Following his start against CLE, he is pitching to a 2.51 FIP and 2.72 xFIP. With numbers like that, Skubal will be a tough guy to knock off the top of the odds board.

Corbin Burnes (Baltimore Orioles): For a few days, Corbin Burnes was favored to win the Cy Young, but all it took was one average outing, and he was back to second on the odds board. In 21 starts this season, Burnes has allowed three or more earned runs in just six of them, which has given him a 2.45 ERA with 121 strikeouts in 132 innings.

Now, just because Skubal looks to be in control of this award does not mean Burnes can't make a run. If Burnes can continue to throw like an ace amid a contested AL East division race, he will remain in striking distance.

Logan Gilbert (Seattle Mariners): There have been quite a few players to sit in third on the odds board for this award, and as we enter the second half of the season, Logan Gilbert is next up on that list. While he may not boast jaw-dropping strikeout numbers like Skubal, the Mariners right-hander has just been consistent, pitching to a 2.72 ERA and 3.27 FIP through 139 innings.

Current Favorites

Chris Sale (Atlanta Braves): Between injuries and inconsistency, Chris Sale's best days as a starter looked to be behind him during the tail end of his Red Sox career. However, that has proven to be far from the case, as the lefty has rediscovered his Cy Young caliber form. In 117.1 innings this season, Sale has racked up 149 strikeouts to go along with a .196 opponent batting average and 2.49 xFIP.

Zack Wheeler (Philadelphia Phillies): Wheeler skipped his final start before the All-Star break due to back tightness but returned to form immediately after returning from the break by working seven shutout innings against the Twins.

Following his start against the Twins, Wheeler is in the 90th percentile in expected batting average and is pitching to a 3.22 FIP and 3.47 xFIP in 123.2 innings of work this season.

Paul Skenes (Pittsburgh Pirates): Before the 2024 MLB season, Paul Skenes was buried at the bottom of the odds board for NL Rookie of the Year. Now, the former #1 pick is sitting in third on the odds board for the Cy Young award, as he is fresh off starting his first career All-Star game.

At the end of the day, if you put the hype surrounding him aside, he is currently boasting a 1.93 ERA, 2.26 xFIP, and 97 strikeouts in 74.2 innings of work. The flamethrower is a near lock to win the Rookie of the Year, but if he can continue to throw the way he has, then he could certainly stay competitive in the Cy Young hunt.
