Carson Beck (University of Georgia): Carson Beck had to be patient in order to earn the starting job, as he sat behind current Rams quarterback Stetson Bennett during Georgia’s back-to-back National Championships. While many players would have transferred, Beck stuck it out and became one of the best college quarterbacks in the country last season.
In his first full season as the starter, Beck threw for 3,941 yards with 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions. Beck picked up right where he left off last season in 2024, as he threw for two touchdowns in a win over Clemson and followed that up with five more touchdown passes against Tennessee Tech. The determining factor for Beck and his future as the number-one pick will be how he plays when Georgia's schedule toughens up at the end of September.
Quinn Ewers (University of Texas): Ewers was touted as the quarterback who could lead Texas back to the promised land. After taking them to the semi-finals of the College Football Playoff in 2023, he started his 2024 season with a bang. In the Longhorns' first test of the season, Ewers led Texas to a blowout win over Michigan. While Ewers can undoubtedly help his draft stock over the next few weeks, every scout's attention will be on him when he takes on Georgia on October 19.
Shedeur Sanders (University of Colorado): Arguably the most polarizing player in college football, will have a lot of eyes on him this season. Sanders burst onto the scene last year as he led his father’s team to an upset win over TCU to start the season. After that, the Buffaloes did not have much success in the win department, but Sanders proved to be one of the best gunslingers in the country.
In his first season at the FBS level, Sanders finished with 3,230 yards and a 27:3 touchdown to interception ratio. While Sanders looked solid again in Colorado's 2024 season opener, he took a step back in their loss to Nebraska. Not only is Sanders still facing the knock that he holds onto the ball too long, but he has not been able to shake the questionable leadership allegations.
