Thrive Fantasy Sportsbook App Review:

thrive fantasy screenshot

Since 2016, the Thrive Fantasy app has provided DFS fans a chance to participate in contests without worrying about a salary cap. At this point in time only customers in Alaska, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts (21 minimum age), Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska (19 minimum age), New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming, have access to the app.

Customers in those states are eligible to download the app and enjoy the overall simplicity that has helped this product garner strong reviews from both IOS and Android users. Since the DFS market is crowded, the overall reputation of this product has yet to truly peak, but for the time being, it seems to have a nice following of customers who appreciate the app’s payout opportunities.

One of the biggest draws for the product is they focus solely on contests with the big names across sports, and those contests are a bit different than traditional DFS contests. This takes away a large need for research and digging deep to find edges on role players and allows users to quickly make lineups that consist of big-name players.

The short-term-only contests are offered for a nice mix of sports and e-sports leagues. These contests are divided neatly on the app, making it easy for users to understand what type of contests they might be entering based on the size of the prize pool or the number of people they will be competing against.

Available Sports, Leagues, And Contests

Whether you’re an NFL fan or enjoy e-sports, there will be competitions for you on the Thrive Fantasy app. Currently, customers can find contests for eight different sports and four different e-sports games. These are all short-term contests that are separated into two different categories. Each contest is divided in the lobby by opponents, so “Featured” contests have the biggest prize pool, “Leagues” offer small and large fields with big payouts, and “Head-to-Head” allows customers to play against one other person; the winner takes all style.

There is also an option to skip the contest aspect and make Pick’em entries directly across four leagues, including the MLB, NBA, NFL, and NHL. This option operates like most other Pick’em style DFS contests and requires customers to select over or under on a given stat for a player and make an entry of 2-5 picks. The more picks in an entry, the bigger the payout multiplier is.

The one area where this app does differ from other DFS apps is they use the Pick’em entries for contests as well, so instead of drafting a lineup with other players, users will create a lineup using ten player prop entries out of a list of 20 provided by the product.

Traditional Contests

Traditional contests require customers to make ten over/under picks on a predetermined list in order to come up with their lineup. Each over/under pick is weighted with points, which always adds up to 200. For example, Aaron Judge over .5 RBIs might have the over-weighted at 110, while the under would be 90 points.

Customers would then make ten selections like that, along with two in case of emergency selections in case someone in their lineup gets injured or the game is canceled. The more points a customer gets, the better their team will do, so it’s up to the customer whether or not to get aggressive and chase less likely outcomes for more points or play it safe.

Versus

For versus contests, instead of picking over/unders on stats, they will be selecting between two athletes for which one will perform better in a statistical category. Players who are less likely to win earn more fantasy points if they do end up performing better.

Much like the traditional contests, users will make ten selections and either get aggressive with underdogs in the hope for a ton of extra points, or they can take the safe bet for each one and select the players favored to win.

Thrive Fantasy Payment And Withdrawal Options

You could sift through dozens of DFS apps, and none of them would provide a really vast list of payment options, including the Thrive Fantasy app. Currently, customers have three options when making a deposit into the product, and they include PayPal, e-check, and credit cards. While three is certainly not a lot, these options are very solid for the situation since users can use an e-wallet or could just use a Visa card.

Each method will be processed immediately, so it takes no time at all for deposits to hit a customer's account. The minimum deposit for any of those methods is $25, which, quite frankly, is a little high for a DFS product and could turn away some users who just want to make a small deposit and test the app before sinking more money into it.

When making a withdrawal, customers have two options, which are online banking and Prizeout. Online banking withdrawals will be processed in anywhere between 1 to 5 days, and there is a minimum withdrawal of $25. Prizeout offers the ability to turn withdrawn cash into instant gift cards, which is not a common method you see in either the DFS or sports betting markets.

Downloading The Thrive Fantasy App

The Thrive Fantasy app can be found and downloaded from either the App Store or Google Play Store, so it is available on both IOS and Android devices. Currently, on the Google Play Store, the product has a 4.1 out of 5 stars and is listed to have over 10,000 downloads. On the App Store, the app has a 3.9 out of 5-star rating.

In terms of the app itself, the user-friendly layout creates a seamless experience when it comes to browsing the contests and either drafting or making “Pick’em” entries. Contests and Pick’em entries can easily be filtered through, and there is even an advanced filter button to make the process go even quicker.

Responsiveness-wise, we were really impressed with the app, as no matter how long we spent on it or how many entries we made in a given session, the app never slowed down. At no point did we have to worry about the app crashing halfway through an entry or freezing while we were making picks, which is really all you can ask for with a DFS product.

Web Platform

If you’re tired of searching all over the place for specific contests and not being able to sort through them with filters, then we recommend checking out the Thrive Fantasy web platform. The simple yet effective layout allows for easy browsing of contests across all the sports offered, making the amount of time from log-in to entering a contest incredibly minimal.

While the site is very easy to use and navigate, we did run into a few responsiveness issues when it came to loading the prop lobby page. In terms of draft-based contests, we found the site to work well, but when it came to the prop lobby, the lagging and lack of loading can grow frustrating over time.

Overall User Experience - Summary: Thrive Fantasy

As far as DFS products go, the Thrive Fantasy app will certainly provide a quality experience, but it’s not among the best apps on the market. There are a lot of positives with this app, including a strong new customer bonus, an efficient layout, and a nice range of contest options.

However, while I did appreciate the quality of the app, I found the contest styles were an example of a product trying to simplify a concept so much it lacks appeal. If I’m going to participate in a DFS contest that is different from others, I want it to stand out so much that I don’t want to go back to traditional contests, but that is not the case with this product.

As I said, even with my feelings on the contests, this product is undoubtedly usable and provides a lot of nice payout opportunities. If there were two things I would like to see changed or added, though, it would be some existing customer promotions and better customer support options.
