Washington Wizards @ Los Angeles Clippers Game Preview and Pick: George Dishes the Rock

Since the second half of the season started, the Washington Wizards haven’t sniffed the win column. In fact, since January 29th, the Wizards haven’t been in the win column, which means they are amid a 13-game losing streak, and their chances of ending it tonight do not look good since they are in LA to play the Clippers.

Obviously, with a 13-game winning streak, no aspect of the team is playing well, but tonight, I think their defense will struggle to slow the Clippers' offense, which is why I think Paul George will stuff the stat sheet.

Game Preview

Last night was the closest the Washington Wizards have come to winning a game since their losing streak began. Washington used a 31-point fourth quarter to force the Lakers into overtime, but they would still ultimately fall 134-131 after scoring just five points in OT.

One of the biggest problems with the Wizards out of the CVS receipt long list of problems is their inconsistency on offense. For example, last night, the Wizards looked like a competent offensive team, with Jordan Poole leading the way with 34 points on 50% shooting from the field. Washington also got double-double performances from both Deni Avdija and Kyle Kuzma.

All three performances are impressive, but even with last night’s game, the Wizards still rank 24th in the league since the break in points per 100 possessions in non-garbage time (106.1), per Cleaning the Glass. Washington has a roster filled with guys who could go off offensively on a given night, so games like last night will happen. Of course, the issue is they also have a roster filled with guys who are not known for defense.

Since the break, the NBA average for points allowed per 100 possessions in non-garbage time is 112.8, but in that span, the Wizards rank 29th in that category at 122.1. That level of defense is exactly what the Clippers need right now since they have gone 1-3 since the break, with their highest point total coming in at 112 points.

Now, it doesn’t help that Paul George has missed the last two games with a knee injury, but regardless, LA seems to be in a shooting slump at the moment. Since the break, the Clippers rank 17th in effective field goal percentage and 15th in true shooting percentage.

Pick for the Game

I should preface this pick by saying that we are banking on Paul George to be healthy enough to play tonight, as recent reports have stated he is feeling better each day. As I mentioned, George has missed the team's past two games with knee soreness and is listed as questionable tonight. However, if he can suit up, the value on his assists prop is too good to pass up, so I’ll be taking him to go over 3.5 assists at (-115) on SBK Sportsbook.

Washington allows opponents to do whatever they want on offense, which has led to them ranking 30th in assists allowed per game (31.6) over the last ten games, per That stat should grab bettors’ attention since Paul George has gone over 3.5 assists in six of his last ten games and ranks third on the team in that span in potential assists.

If you think targeting an assist prop for a team struggling to shoot is a questionable decision, I get that, but this is a Wizards team allowing opponents to shoot 51.8% from the field over the last ten games. Of all the teams to target an assist prop against, the Wizards are at the top of the list.

  • Paul George Over 3.5 Assists (-115) on SBK or DraftKings
