The second weekend of the college baseball season is here, and we’ll go over a two-team moneyline parlay to get your betting weekend started on the right foot. Betting on college baseball has not become popular yet, but it can be a very profitable sport to bet on.
The first team we’ll be targeting is the Southern Miss. Golden Eagles, as they opened the season with a three-game sweep over a strong Liberty team and a midweek win over New Orleans. The Golden Eagles are supremely talented when it comes to both hitting and pitching, and that has been on full display since the first inning of the year.
Across their four games, the Golden Eagles have only allowed three total runs to be scored, and they are fresh off scoring 12 runs in their game on Tuesday. The biggest reason the Golden Eagles are a solid team to target today is starting pitcher Tanner Hall, who is already 1-0 on the year with five strikeouts.
The right-hander will likely hear his name called early in the MLB draft at the end of the season, and today he will face an Illinois offense that is hitting .237 through their first four games, ranked 194th in the country. Additionally, the Fighting Illini rank 169th in On Base Percentage, and in their final two games last weekend, they were outscored 18-2.
Southern Miss. as a pitching staff is already ranked 5th in strikeout-to-walk ratio, so they pose a tough matchup for the Illini even when Hall exits the game. The Golden Eagles also pose a tough matchup for the Illini starter Riley Gowens, who, although talented, did not face a lineup like Southern Miss. in his first start of the season. Southern Mississippi’s lineup ranks 90th in slugging percentage, while Gowens first lineup that he faced ranks 189th in that same category.
The second team we’ll target for the parlay is the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, who are 2-2 this season. Alex Edmundson will be on the mount for the Chanticleers, as he opened the season with just two innings in a loss to VCU, but he certainly has talent, as he was ranked as a top-15 draft prospect in the Sun Belt.
The Clemson transfer will take on a Creighton team that, despite being 2-1 on the season, is hitting just .194. That batting average is ranked 253rd in the country, and there are only 281 eligible division one teams. The Blue Jays struck out 27 times in their three games series against McNeese State while only registering one homerun.
Coastal’s offense will enter today hitting .280 as a team, with Graham Brown leading the way with two home runs and six RBIs. The Chanticleers are also a much better team when playing at home, as they were 22-7-1 at home last season, so they should be able to jump on Creighton right from the game's first pitch.
