Out of the 48 college basketball games tonight there are three that will be featured in this edition of Mid Major Money. Through the first few editions, our picks record is 5-2 and we’ll be looking to build on that tonight with three more.
For those new to Mid Major Money the whole goal of this series is to highlight and give picks on some under-the-radar mid-major games that could be of interest to bettors.
We’ll be starting with the latest game of the night with a 10:00 PM ET tip-off as Utah State will head to San Diego to take on the Toreros. Utah State is favored by -6 and they’ll be my first pick of the day.
Both teams enter tonight’s match-up with a 3-0 record and the Aggies are coming off two straight wins against solid mid-major programs. Utah State has covered all three games as well and has been scoring at a very high level. The Aggies are averaging 85 points a game and shooting 41.9% from three-point land.
Steven Ashworth is leading the team with 18.3 ppg and anchors this Utah State team that’ll be the biggest challenge San Diego has had so far this season. The Toreros have looked good this season but the only noteworthy team they’ve played is FGCU. Despite the Toreros’ solid start to the season, I don’t think they can score with the Aggies.
Seikou Sisoho Jawara and Jase Townsend carry this San Diego team on offense but the overall depth the Aggies possess when it comes to scoring will be too much for San Diego to compete with. Defensively Utah State has been able to limit talented opposing offenses and even held Bradley to 62 points despite them being a team that averages 81.3 points a game this season.
The Bisons of North Dakota State have yet to win a game this season and will play 2-0 Indiana State tonight in Indiana. The Bison are currently +11.5 road underdogs and I think they can cover this number. NDSU might be winless but they are 2-1 ATS this season and will be who I’m taking in this one.
NDSU has had a rough shooting start to the season but leading scorer Grant Nelson looked a lot better in the Bisons’ last game so I think he could be breaking out of his early-season shooting slump. If Nelson and Boden Skunberg can score in a more efficient way tonight they should be able to stay in this game with the Sycamores.
Indiana State might be 2-0 but I don’t like this number for them. The Sycamores rely primarily on two players to provide all their offense so the lack of scoring depth worries me to lay a number like this with them. I’ll stick with the Bison to hang around and cover.
After a lackluster performance in their opening game, this Coppin State team has looked solid. I think the Eagles can cover the -3.5 tonight against Tennessee Tech. Coppin State is 3-1 ATS this season and even though Georgetown's name doesn’t hold the same weight it used to this Eagles team was able to take the Hoyas to overtime.
Sam Sessoms is averaging 23 ppg for the Eagles and I don’t think this Tennesse Tech team will be able to contain him. The Tennesee Tech Golden Eagles have also been horrid when it comes to shooting this season so I think Coppin State can hold a lead against them and cover again tonight.
Utah State -6
North Dakota State +11.5
Coppin State -3.5
5-2
