Consider This NHL Puck Line Tonight

It’s a lighter day in the NHL with only four games scheduled to take place but one of those games has caught my attention and become the focus of my lone NHL bet of the night. We’ll break down the game along with what side I’ll be betting on.

LA Kings @ Calgary Flames Game Preview

The 10-6-1 LA Kings will head into Calgary tonight to take on the 6-6-2 Flames. Los Angeles enters the game on a four-game winning streak and playing at an even higher level than some analysts expected them to be. Kevin Fiala has led the way for this team with 16 points and 11 assists so far this season while Gabriel Vilardi leads the team in goals with 10.

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick got off to a rough start to the season but has really turned it around as of late. The goaltender now has a .904 save percentage on the season while allowing an average of 2.83 goals a game. It hasn’t always been pretty on this four-game winning streak but the Kings have done enough to get the job done.

Calgary is coming off a win against the Winnipeg Jets in their last game which broke a seven-game losing streak for them. The Flames goalies have not gotten off to the best start this season as Jacob Markstrom enters tonight with a .895 save percentage in 11 games played.

Nazem Kadri has been off to a solid start this season leading the Flames in points with 12 and goals with 7. Calgary will now also be able to rely on Jonathan Huberdeau again who will return tonight after missing the last three games.

Play for the Game

The Flames' moneyline is currently sitting at -178 in most sportsbooks while the Kings' moneyline can be found at +146. Despite being an interesting underdog play I’ll instead be taking the Kings' puck line of +1.5 at -175 as my best bet for this game.

LA has been a puck line covering machine when they’re the underdogs. The Kings are 7-2 ATS as the underdog and their last five games have all been decided by only one goal. The way Jonathan Quick has been playing lately gives me a lot of confidence this will be a close match-up.

Calgary has been the opposite when it comes to covering the spread. The Flames are 2-9 ATS when they are favored and 2-8 ATS when they play at home this season. Despite breaking their recent losing streak I still don’t think this Calgary team has it all the way figured out yet and is in for another close game.
