Coastal Carolina @ Wofford Preview and Pick

An underrated mid-major showdown will go down tonight with Coastal Carolina heading to Wofford to take on the Terriers. We’ll get into a preview of the game along with my best bet for the game.

Game Preview

Coastal Carolina enters tonight off a nice five-point win over Winthrop bringing their record to 4-3 on the season. The Chanticleers have not faced played a tough non-conference schedule up to this point as they are ranked 280th in the country in non-conference strength of schedule.

The toughest test this Coastal team has faced was against Missouri, a game in which they lost 89-51. The Chanticleers have not performed at a high level on either end of the floor up to this point only averaging 67.8 points per game and allowing an average of 73.6 points to be scored. Jomaru Brown has carried this offense so far averaging 16.3 points per game and shooting 46.3% from the field.

It should be a good offensive matchup to watch between Brown and Wofford's leading scorer B.J. Mack. The Terriers forward had 19 points in Wofford’s most recent three-point loss to Vanderbilt. Freshman Jackson Paveletzke has helped take some of the pressure off Mack on the offensive end, as he is averaging 15.2 points per game while shooting 47.6% from three.

Wofford has an adjusted offensive efficiency rating of 107.5 on KenPom which is 67th in the country which is fairly unsurprising since the Terriers have a 1.123 shooting efficiency and only average 10.6 turnovers a game. One of the things Wofford has struggled with is rebounding, entering tonight they are only pulling in an average of 20.4 defensive rebounds per game and 7.6 offensive rebounds. This is something they will need to clean up tonight against a good offensive rebounding Chanticleers team.

Pick for the Game

Wofford can be found as -6 point favorites in some books and I think they are the play to make in this one. I don’t think Coastal has proven they can beat a solid opponent nor do I think they will be able to stop B.J. Mack from getting what he wants on the offensive end.

The Chanticleers have a defensive efficiency rating on KenPom of 103.6 which is 200th in the country. Keep in mind they have only played one team ranked inside the top 50 so they have not necessarily played the most high-powered offenses.

I mentioned previously Wofford doesn’t turn the ball over often and with Coastal being ranked 315th in the country in forcing turnovers the Chanticleers won’t be able to create any transition opportunities for themselves. The Terriers have a 2-1 ATS record at home this season and have yet to lose a game outright at home so I don’t see that changing tonight.
