Cale Makar (Colorado Avalanche): Unfortunately for the rest of the NHL, Cale Makar has continued to elevate his game. During the 2023-24 season, Makar posted a career-high 90 points with 69 assists and 21 goals. Not to mention, the Avalanche star also recorded a career-high 148 blocks, as his previous career-high was 110, so with numbers like that, it was unsurprising to see him open as the favorite across the board. To start the 2024-25 season, that dominance has continued, as Makar is third in the league with 27 points and 19 assists.
Quinn Hughes (Vancouver Canucks): After finishing 9th in Norris Trophy during the 2022-23 season, Hughes came back and won it for the 2023-24 season. For the first time in his career, Hughes recorded double-digit goals with 17 while also dishing out a career-best 75 assists to give him 92 points on the season. Following that banner year, Hughes has started the 2024-25 season on a bit of a slower note compared to last season, as he's recorded 19 points from 15 assists and four goals.
Adam Fox (New York Rangers): Fox was a big factor in the Rangers reaching the Eastern Conference Finals, and he certainly has the potential to be even better during the 2024-25 season. Not only did Fox record at least 70 points for the third straight season, but he buried a career-high 17 goals to go along with 56 assists.
If there is one word that describes Fox, it is consistent. He recorded 120+ blocks for the third consecutive season while also dishing out 44 hits, the most he's recorded since his rookie season. While Fox has yet to find the back of the net in 2024, he has recorded 15 assists.
