The UEFA Champions League answers the question of how premier clubs from around the world would stack up against competition from outside their respective leagues. Real Madrid took home the trophy in 2023-24, winning their 15th Champions League title and sixth in the last 11 years. Currently, Real Madrid has the second-best odds of becoming repeat champions behind EPL juggernaut Manchester City. Manchester City: To open a new year in Champions League play, Man City started with a draw against Inter Milan. They quickly followed that up with a 4-0 win over Slovan Bratislava and a 5-0 win over Sparta Praha, which put Man City in 3rd place in the standings with seven points. However, in their fourth match, Man City suffered their first Champions League loss, falling 4-1 to Sporting, which dropped them to 10th in the standings. The next chance Man City will have to get back on track will be on November 26th when they play Feyenoord.
Real Madrid: In an effort to become repeat champions, Real Madrid won their first match, lost their second match, and won 5-2 over Dortmund in their third, putting them in 12th place in the Champions League standings. Instead of moving up the standings, though, Real Madrid has gone in the opposite direction, as their 3-1 loss to AC Milan has them in 18th place. Things won't be getting easier for Real Madrid either, as they'll play Liverpool in their next match.
FC Barcelona: Through four Champions League matches, FC Barcelona leads the Champions League in goals with 15. After dropping their first Champions League game to Monaco, FC Barcelona has picked up a 5-0 win over Young Boys, a 4-1 victory over Bayern Munich, and a 5-2 win over Crvena Zvezda. Looking to continue their impressive scoring pace, Barcelona will take on Brest on November 26th.
